The Borges documentary gave a very insightful look into the life of Jorge Luis Borges. What was so interesting about it was that it gave us an idea of where Borges found inspiration for many of his pieces of work. We learned about his life and the people around him that he most undoubtedly used in his writings. Also it was fascinating to notice that his blindness seemed to help him with his writing because he would be talking to someone and then be able to dream up a story in his mind and would then use his dreams as stimulus for his stories.
The Garden of Forking Paths was similarly very interesting. The idea of a never-ending novel is quite amazing. “I had questioned myself about the ways in which a book can be infinite. I could think of nothing other than a cyclic volume, a circular one. A book whose last page was identical which the first…” It’s also interesting that he thought of a book that could be read in different ways, much like how we may move through the internet today. We don’t read one page to the next but rather skip around, clicking on links and such, to learn about a subject or quickly move through a story. He was definitely a writer ahead of his time and I can see how this one story affected many people after him.
